Taxonomy Comments
'The holotype specimen of X. distinguendus does not match Eggers’ (1930) description; however, the labels on the specimen match the description. The description clearly indicates a species that belongs in Cyclorhipidion, yet the specimen is of an undescribed Microperus (Smith et al. in prep). The holotype labeled as Xyleborus tristis matches Eggers’ description of X. distinguendus, and is here designated as the neotype of Xyleborus distinguendus. We are confident that this neotype was the holotype specimen. Due to the mislabeling event it is very likely that the species does not actually occur at the low elevation indicated by the locality label.' (Smith, Beaver, Singh & Cognato, 2018:139)
