Bark and Ambrosia Beetles of the World

This species has been confounded with Xylechinus porteri Brethes. Wood’s (2007) treatment is very confusing but examination of specimens in his collection at the USNM confirms that there are 2 separate species involved. Wood’s difference of opinion between 1992 (Wood & Bright) and 2007 reveals a fundamental confusion between 2 names by Brethes. Even though the type of Brethes’ species has been lost, it takes priority over Eggers’ name.
