Mecke (2004) in a synopsis of the genus Pachycotes pointed out that P. villosus differs from other species in the genus in several aspects and may not belong in this genus. He also noted that there is no mention of a host in the original description of the species. This article (Schedl, 1962) is the only publication that references this species until Wood & Bright (1992). Mecke suggested that listing Araucaria sp. as a host might be an error by Wood & Bright, that no species of that genus are found in Westerm Australia, and that the true host is unknown.
